SAVANNAH, GA – A tragic plane crash on Sunday night claimed the life of local pilot Boris Yusupov, a Bukharian Jewish resident of Glen Rock, New Jersey. The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. near the intersection of Habersham and East 66th streets, resulting in the plane bursting into flames. Rescue crews worked tirelessly to extricate Yusupov and a passenger, who sustained minor injuries, while Yusupov was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
According to his LinkedIn, Yusupov was an accomplished pilot with over 5,200 flight hours and extensive certifications, including FAA Airline Transport Pilot and Commercial Pilot ratings. He previously flew for Uzbekistan Airways on the An-24 and had been a First Officer at Journey Aviation since 2015. He also owned NYC Air Service, specializing in sightseeing tours and flight training. Additionally, Boris worked as a self-employed electrician, showcasing his diverse skill set.


The Savannah Police Department and IAFF Savannah Firefighters are investigating the crash’s cause, with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also notified for a thorough investigation. Chesed Shel Emes is collaborating with local authorities to ensure proper Jewish burial rites for Yusupov.
A funeral will be held for our beloved Boris Yusupov on Wednesday, October 16 at Millenium 99 (63-36 99th St.) in Rego Park, NY at 9:30 AM.
