You either love him or hate him, and if you’re Bukharian, it’s likely the former. Donald Trump, the second president to win nonconsecutive terms and the first felon, has garnered unwavering support from the Bukharian community, despite his criminal record. Since his first term, Bukharians have strongly supported him through thick and thin. But why?
I reached out to community members to understand the reasons behind their admiration. Is it his stance on Israel, his economic policies, his sense of humor, or the fact that he’s from Queens? Or is it a combination of all these factors? Here’s what they had to say:
A President Who Keeps His Word
“In my view Trump is the best president that America has ever had, especially because his policies and all the actions related to Israel. He is the man of his word… His promises are not just political rhetoric… He does what he says he will do.” — David Mavashev, philanthropist

“From a religious perspective, Bukharians align more with the orthodox community. Transgender and woke teachings in school are very anti-religion and also against our tight-nit family culture.
Bukharians like Trump because they typically admire strength and don’t believe promoting ‘equity’/ equal outcomes is fair. We all came here with nothing after the fall of the Soviet Union and grew to become a very successful group of people in a single (hard working) generation.
Our parents are also all anti-communist because they come from the Soviet Union and know that it doesn’t work and that it only leads to economic (and possibly mortal) disaster.
For these reasons Bukharians are very pro-Trump and pro-Republican. Some females tend to not be because of abortion issues, but the war in Israel made it a clear vote for Trump this time around.” — Edik Ilyasov, business owner

The Bukharian community’s admiration for Trump reflects a unique blend of cultural values, historical experiences, and shared aspirations for stability and growth. From his support of Israel to his firm stance on traditional values, Trump resonates deeply with those who prioritize strength, economic resilience, and straightforward leadership. While the U.S. remains politically polarized, these voices illustrate how identity, heritage, and personal journeys can shape political loyalty. Regardless of how America moves forward in the future, Trump’s imprint on this community’s perspective remains profound, underscoring the lasting impact of his policies and persona.
