In a celebration of cultural heritage and academic excellence, 25 Bukharian Jewish student leaders from seven universities across New York City and Long Island gathered on March 31 for an awards ceremony hosted by SAMi, the Sephardic American Mizrahi Initiative.

The event recognized outstanding leadership among Bukharian Jewish students who hold positions in various campus organizations, including SAMi clubs, Hillel chapters, and other campus institutions.

«Last week’s celebration brought together Bukharian Jewish students from across the region, highlighting our strong and united community,» said Manashe Khaimov, CEO and founder of SAMi, shared on Instagram on April 9.

The Bukharian Cultural Club at Queens College received the prestigious «Strength and Resilience Award,» while the newly formed SAMi chapter at Stony Brook University was also recognized for its achievements.
Individual honors went to Danielle Babaev, who received the «SAMi Emerging Leadership Award,» and Emily Nisimov, who was presented with the «SAMi Innovation Award.»

«Your dedication is truly inspiring,» Khaimov told the honorees during the ceremony.
The event underscored the growing presence and influence of Bukharian Jewish students across New York area campuses. Khaimov expressed gratitude to the UJA-Federation of New York and Jewish Community Relations Council of New York (JCRCNY) for their ongoing support of the Bukharian Jewish Community in Queens.
«Huge gratitude to our individual donors and funders, without you this would not have happened,» Khaimov added.

The ceremony marked a significant moment for the Bukharian Jewish community, showcasing the achievements of its young leaders and the continued growth of cultural representation across academic institutions.
