At JIQ Boys’ Middle and High School, words aren’t just tools—they’re stepping stones to expression, clarity, and excellence. That commitment came to life once again at the 2025 Annual JIQ Spelling Bee, where, over the course of two weeks, precision, courage, and scholarship were put to the test in a room full of eager competitors and cheering classmates.
An Event Rooted in Growth and Grit
The event took place in a spirited setting where students competed in a series of rounds that tested not only their spelling skills but their ability to stay calm under pressure. The bee featured a diverse range of vocabulary—from common words to more complex, rarely-used terms that had even the adults double-checking their dictionaries.
But the Spelling Bee wasn’t just about academic ability. It was also a lesson in poise, presence, and perseverance. Each participant walked to the mic knowing that every letter counted. The silence in the room before each word, and the eruption of applause after each successful spelling, created a powerful atmosphere of encouragement and pride.
Our Winners: Leading with Letters
After a fierce and focused showdown last Friday, these were the results:
• First Place Winner: Yosef Aminov
• Runner-Up: Aharon Koyenov
• Enunciation Award: Binyamin Khaimov, for crystal-clear delivery and articulation throughout the competition
These top contenders didn’t just earn bragging rights—they received National Scripps Spelling Bee Certificates and a one-year subscription to Britannica Online, a prestigious resource used by students and researchers worldwide.
Even more exciting: their performance qualifies them to advance to compete against other schools in New York—and potentially, on a national level. The journey doesn’t end here.

All nine boys who competed walked away winners in their own right. Each received custom spelling bee goody bags and participation medals to commemorate their effort and bravery.
