a memorable graduation, indeed!

REGO PARK, QUEENS–On Sunday afternoon, June 22 (26 Sivan), a momentous and heartfelt graduation ceremony took place for 26 bright and promising 12th-grade students of Ohr Chana High School, located in the vibrant and close-knit Bukharian community of Queens, New York. The ceremony took place at the Bukharian Jewish Community Center in Forest Hills, where an air of excitement and anticipation filled the space, as proud families, esteemed faculty members, and the school’s administration gathered to celebrate this meaningful milestone.
As the clock struck 2:00 PM, the ceremony began with an undeniable sense of pride and joy. The names of the graduates were called out one by one–from “Leah Aronova” to “Daniella Zavulunov”–and each young woman walked down the aisle in her blue gown to the stage with grace, poised to take her place among her fellow classmates. Together, they sat in a circle of unity, basking in the warm and festive atmosphere that filled the room. The energy in the hall was electric, as emotions swirled and the air was filled with a palpable sense of accomplishment and anticipation for the future.
The ceremony commenced with talented students Daniella Zavulunov and Yael Yushuvaev offering warm and heartfelt greetings in both Russian and English. They welcomed the school community, their families, and distinguished guests, setting the tone for an event filled with gratitude, reflection, and optimism for what lies ahead. Their words resonated deeply with all present, as they eloquently expressed the pride and honor of completing such an important chapter of their lives.
One of the most touching moments came when Valedictorian Ruth Mirzakandov took to the stage to read a chapter from Tehillim. Her words, spoken with sincerity and reverence, offered prayers for the peace of Israel, the safety of the soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces, and the well-being of all citizens of the Jewish State. This heartfelt gesture brought a wave of emotion over the audience, underscoring the deep connection these young women have to their heritage, their faith, and their people.

In a moment of great significance, graduating senior Adina Dekhanov stood before the audience to express profound gratitude to Mr. Lev Leviev, President of the World Bukharian Jewish Congress and the President of the Bukharian community institutions in Queens. Adina expressed heartfelt appreciation for his unwavering support, personal commitment, and lasting impact on both the school and its students. Mr. Leviev’s generosity and dedication to the well-being of the community have been instrumental in fostering the success of this institution, and his contributions were deeply acknowledged and appreciated by all in attendance.
Next, Mrs. Chagit Sofiev-Leviev, the daughter of Mr. Leviev, took the stage to offer her own heartfelt congratulations to the graduates. With a graceful and inspiring presence, Mrs. Sofiev-Leviev extended her warm wishes to the students, the teaching staff, the administration, and the esteemed rabbis who guide the educational institutions within the community. In her speech, she also delivered a stirring and thought-provoking message, beautifully connecting the girls’ years of study and growth to their futures as strong, compassionate mothers, influential leaders, and accomplished professionals. Her words resonated deeply with the graduates, offering them both inspiration and encouragement as they prepare to embark on the next chapter of their lives.
The evening continued with remarks from various members of the school administration, each offering their own unique words of wisdom and praise. Principal Mrs. Sari Aminov, Vice Principal of Judaic Studies Mrs. Rivka Wolowik, Vice Principal of General Studies Ms. Venti, Assistant Administrator/Program Director Mrs. Morah Pavlowskiy, and Director of Student Advancement Mr. Dimyan each took the podium to express their personal congratulations and admiration for the students. They celebrated the hard work, dedication, and perseverance that these young women demonstrated throughout their academic journey. Each speaker emphasized their pride in the graduates’ achievements and wished them continued success as they pursue their dreams in the next stage of their lives.

It was also noted with great pride that many of the graduates have already made plans to continue their studies at prestigious seminaries in Israel, while others will pursue higher education at esteemed colleges and universities across the United States. These talented young women, equipped with both academic excellence and a deep sense of faith, are now poised to make a meaningful impact on the world around them.
As the ceremony neared its conclusion, the graduates were presented with certificates of recognition, each one symbolizing their unique contributions and accomplishments throughout their years of study.
